It's worse than that, he didn't take responsibility for the failure. That's why he had Germany fight to the bitter end. You have to admit though for one country and a handful of shaky alliances they fought exceptionally well. Their problem was always their logistics and the leadership being overly ambitious and asking far too much of the Wehrmacht. They were for a time the world's finest fighting force, casting aside the murder of innocents in the occupied countries. It's not much different from what our boys did to civvies and villages in Iraq though.

it was his generals, especially Halder, who were responsible for not obeying Hitler and trying to idiotically aim for Moscow instead of the south in the first year of the invasion. What do you think they would've done without attacking Russia? Germany would starve because of the blockades, and in 2 years they'd have no oil left to defend when USSR attacks Europe (which was already planned)
