>There is no indication of that happening for now.
Watching domestic news in Japan only increases my concerns.
Japan's navy, the Maritime Self-Defense Force, has recently begun engaging in provocative actions toward China. Last year, the MSDF sailed through the Taiwan Strait with warships for the first time in history. This year, it transited the strait alone without U.S. Navy escort. According to information released last month, a JMSDF warship violated Chinese territorial waters last year. This constitutes a serious violation that could easily escalate into combat, yet the Japanese government refuses to provide any explanation whatsoever. For Japan, which has long harbored an aversion to war and military affairs since the postwar era, these developments represent a major shift. Furthermore, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force recently deployed missiles in the southwestern region. This is utterly meaningless against China's massive military power and only serves to increase the risk of war. Over the past 20 to 30 years, Japan has been gradually, slowly, yet steadily transformed into a country more prepared for war, both legally and institutionally.
It feels to me as though someone within either the Japanese or American government wants to provoke a war between Japan and China.
