I wouldn't want to leave my house without being armed and I've been training in martial arts for my whole life. That's just how life is. I actually have an extremely violent streak in me so I go out of my way to never ever be in a situation where I might snap and have a psychotic break and murder someone. Let's talk about tactics.
I believe it was Malcolm X who had the habit of sitting facing the entrance so he could see who came in the place and if they were coming for him. This level of situational awareness is vital to your survival. The phone is actually a trap because it causes you to relax and lose situational awareness.
