There's always going to be crime.
There's crime in prison, so even in a place with guards all over the place and everyone being watched you can't stop crime fully.

Like they say in America, when seconds count the police are minutes away (and that's being very optimistic).

Everyone should have the right to own a gun. The Prime minister is surrounded by guns to keep him safe, as are the Royals. It's only the hoi polloi who are denied this right and left at the mercy of criminals.

That's unlikely to happen and I'd argue would have more resistance than ownership of guns.
Also it wouldn't stop all crimes, it would stop some but you can't legislate low impulse control or people who are just nutcases out of existence.

There's also the other fact that the public are disarmed because politicians fear an armed populus. Guns used to be legal in the UK, it wasn't that long ago. You can read Orwell arguing in favor of it in his time.
