>When asked about her support, Usha Chilukuri Vance, who grew up in a Hindu household, offered three reasons. "I did grow up in a religious household. My parents are Hindu. That is one of the reasons why they made such good parents. That made them very good people. And I think I have seen the power of that in my own life," she stated. She added that she recognised JD was searching for something, and his journey towards Christianity "just felt right for him."
As of September 2025, only J.D. Vance's eldest child, Ewan, has been baptized into the Catholic Church. His other children, Vivek and Mirabel, have not yet been baptized, and all three are being raised in a household that incorporates both Catholic and Hindu traditions.
Details on the children's baptismal status:
Ewan Vance: At 7 years old, Ewan chose to be baptized Catholic in November 2024.
Vivek and Mirabel Vance: In a June 2025 interview, Second Lady Usha Vance explained that she and J.D. Vance send their children to Catholic school and will allow each of them to decide whether they want to be baptized into the church as they grow up.
This interfaith approach stems from the family's background: J.D. Vance converted to Catholicism in 2019, while Usha Vance was raised Hindu and still practices the faith.
