They don't kill you for no reason but they do for trivial ones. Some here have been killed simply doing a peace sign on a facebook photo(taken as a sign of allegiance to another gang), for being with the wrong people at the wrong time(One kid I used to talk to got burned alive in a car for this), for entering favelas unannounced because of a GPS mistake, for having ANY friendly interaction at all with a rival gang(they use your death as a warning), I could go on and on. I'm pretty sure I've seen stories of cartels apologizing for harming/killing white Americans. It's really bad for business so it usually causes some heads to roll.
