that chink professor on youtube was talking about it last night. he said something like sophia, which I guess is like the angel of wisdom, decides to procreate without a spous and spawn a bastard demon demiurge thing. Gnostics aren't a single group of people with a single collection of books. Mandaeans may be the most prominent, but they had to rewrite their books to align more with Islam so that they could be counted as people of the book and not be slaughtered. Their current books are a strange form of docetism that essentially creates 2 of Jesus. There is a spirit that heals and does miracles, appears to be crucified but has a substitution, then ascends to heaven. Gnosticism is largely an attempt to understand Jesus without listening to Jesus, in order to somehow gain the powers of Jesus. There are almost as many strands of Gnosticism as there are Gnostics. What you're describing is Valentinian school. Sophia is also quite a bt higher than a regular angel, and not altogether forgotten in Eastern Orthodox church.

Marcionite school, which is probably the oldest, is just regular Christianity that rejects Old Testament and maintains that kikes are children of the devil. Sufficient to say, it is probably the correct form of Christianity because it doesn't require mental gymnastics to fit the observed world. But there's not much evidence that Marcion even cared about "Gnosis", he's just lumped in with the rest because Gnostics and Jews really didn't like each other.

the root word of gnosticism is gnosis, which is a knowledge beyond intellectual knowledge. gnostics believed in most of the things that christ taught, but they believed that the way to salvation, and the way to move towards god is through a personal journey of inquiry and discovery instead of through christ as a intermediary, even though christ himself said "the kingdom of god is within you”

The Word is more important anyways, but one of my favorite ways to look at it is picrel. Two accounts were written by the only two that were there, yet the dates for Paul are earlier. You can infer from that what you wish.
