The technical term we use is the bore axis offset.
Competition guns generally have a much lower bore axis so as to minimize that very issue. The slide returning to battery honestly does most of the work of getting you back on target, and we've gotten it down pretty much to a science. The modern ~4" race guns with big ports in the front barely move now, and they cycle crazy fast.
