Ruskies have been around for centuries too as rare but friendly traders, because they have tried to influence us with favors for decades but got away quickly after trying without us giving them anything they have been seen, along with germans, as decent people and better than americans.
The only perceived cultural problem against russians is their atheism but mainly because only die hard commies came here in the last century.
Regarding "colonization", it is a funny relation in the borderland among native dwellers, there's tons of immigrants butthurt but deep down we have been exchanging ideas for centuries and we have similar things because the origin is the same.
Our problems started when the US started going full fed and tried to take land en masse but also by ethnically cleansing them, killing the natives and even the civilized mestizos as "indians" while expelling the spaniard land lords by calling them "indian enablers" or downright killing them around the Spanish expel after false flagging one of their own boats.
