Anti depressants work by blunting your emotions and making it easier to make conscious decisions about how to act and react. Antidepressants will never make you high or make you feel "good". Anti depressants do not work on patients who aren't actively participating in improving their outcomes, it's not a magic pill that makes depression go away, it just supports people who are struggling with impulsive destructive thoughts.

In fact one of the most common side effects of anti depressants is for the patient to no longer experience the manic high that they previously experienced.

Anti depressants also carry the risk of a patient committing an hero for the above reasons. They are a serious medical intervention and should not be taken lightly.

no, depression is dulling of positive response. you could win the lottery and feel nothing

the first time i took zoloft it made me euphoric. suddenly i thought trying to troll people on 4chan would be the funniest shit ever. it was the one time i got banned, many years ago

i had zero side effects from zoloft. it had little noticeable effect in general except that it possibly ended my desire to commit suicide, which persisted after stopping

the fearmongering around ssris is overblown. in fact, they have a mild nootropic effect, boosting neurogenesis and plasticity which helps repair brain damage from actual depression. if you dont have real depression you shouldnt take them

You're full of shit. No SSRI will affect you after a single pill. That's simply not how it works champ.

If you take enough Zoloft in one sitting to have an immediate reaction, you're risking serotonin syndrome which will cause you to have fever like symptoms such as swearing, heart palpitations, muscle tremors and in more extreme cases seizures and death.

So you're either retarded (likely) and you're telling yourself you got high on a placebo effect, or you're just lying.

SSRIs inhibit the action of dopamine. This is why they cause sexual dysfunction and what causes suicidal ideation in a significant portion of users. They actually increase depression because of this. Depression is caused mostly by a lack of dopamine agonism in the brain. That's why when you crash from a dopaminergic stimulant(coke, meth) you feel depressed.
Dopamine is the molecule responsible for pleasure, and arousal.
Drugs that increase dopamine WOULD be great cures for depression, except they can also make people become self-destructive in arousal, and can even cause mania and psychosis.
There is no pill you can take to treat depression that will not ruin your life. The only way to solve depression in your life is to make changes to your living arrangements and conditions, eat better food, exercise, and do other things to improve yourself. Relying on medicine is not going to fix the underlying cause of the depression.

YES, SSRIs can and will cause suicidal ideation in some patients more than placebo. Now, you want to argue neurochemistry with me?

PS: chelated magnesium supps help with depression, most people are Mg deficient, and Mg acts as a mild natural NMDA antagonist

Studies can show a lot of things, in a controlled lab environment.
In the real world, which is not a controlled laboratory, you have this thing called "entropy" which causes randomness to change how shit actually works.
The chemistry of life should be completely impossible. Have you ever thought of what your body is? It's a massive collection of millions of chemical compounds in a water solution, with tons of energy flowing around. If you tried to do chemistry how life does chemistry, you'd end up with a flask of toxic waste.
It's astounding from a chemist's perspective how it works, and doesn't go to shit. The human body mixes lipids and water and makes them function together. It shouldn't work by everything chemistry knows about how chemicals and bonds function. But everything does. Not perfectly of course but in an absolute symphony and mastery of chemistry that nothing humans have ever done can come close to.

Your brain itself is more powerful than Chat-GPT, and uses the energy of whatever you eat and drink, and your body can take these collections of chemicals you call food to build, maintain, and power itself. A single 5090 needs 600W to do 1/1,000,000th of what your brain can do.

So whenever I see "studies" done in a controlled lab I just roll my eyes. Life is not a goddamn laboratory. Geeks know this, nerds do not.

So this anon is actually correct, but most doctors (who we know are full of shit typically) aren't aware of this.

Serotonin reuptake inhibition effect is immediate upon digestion. Same as if you were to drink a cup of coffee, or alcohol.

If your problem is that you don't have enough serotonin, or your body isn't using the serotonin properly/efficiently, then yes, that person will have an instant response to it. This is typical in people with extreme levels of panic and anxiety.

The anti-depressipn effects not well-understood, and that is what they typically mean by it possibly needing more time to work. Usually it's not only serotonin involved with depression, but altering serotonin has a chain reaction with dopamine, BDNF, etc etc that eventually could have some impact on depression. These drugs are definitely much more effective for anxiety though.

Been here a loooong time, this is one of the few subjects /pol/ has been horribly incompetent with, so I will set the record straight for the 1000th time.

I grew up around guns, including illegal surplus military hardware. I fired an M2 when I was like 10.

You know how many people I've shot? None. Because I'm not a psycho. Dangerous people are easy to spot, they always act and carry themselves in a dangerous manner. psychology is just the art of convincing npcs by conversation that magic is happening via props such as medication in order to convince them to subvert their own minds which have taken to 'bad' habits
usually, its merely a question of getting them to use their own dormant willpower, something which has been negated by a combination of environmental variables, i.e. millenias of brainwashing, selectively breeding npcs just like them; and some degree of having been convinced to not establish their connection with divinity, usually due to having been born in a culture which identifies anything remotely spiritual or divine as demons to be avoided at all costs, or ascribed to something nonsensical so as to undermine the person consciously or subconsciously, so they might develop the behavior of avoiding it. this eventually, inevitably, results in the use of psychiatrists, or their predecessors who didnt charge on a per visit basis, priests/confessionals. then the person can be adjusted even further on other patterns of thinking. but because its been so successful at what it was designed to do, using this to actually solve a problem is often a fruitless venture, but its supposed to be. why fix someone when that person's status and comfort is being maintained by your requiring of them? this is how most of modern medicine works. but even when you get that rare person who knows what theyre doing and isnt unconsciously trying to not fix you, the solution to the problem can be beyond their ability to instill within the npc. because knowledge isnt power. you can tell the npc the solution, they can have the knowledge, but still choose not to apply the solution despite knowing what it is. but thats just one more broken problem. such is the infinite regress of modern medicine with its various solutions inciting side effects, which then require their own treatment, perpetually ad infinitum.
