The American locomotives and trucks were really fucking crucial in order to get troops and material to the front. We basically saved their ass. USSR worked with Germany against Poland both wanting to backstab the other when they had the chance and Germany was the first to get their knife in. America were helping not only UK but Russia with weapons and supplies. In fact without side help. Russia would have most likely fell. The Soviets grossly inflated their role in the conflict. For most of their part of the war, they only fought half of the Werhmacht, they were utterly dependent on western aid and intelligence to fight effectively and still only found successes on the battlefield when there was something going on simultaneously out west that weakened the Nazi's for them.

Russia has spent the past half century revising history to inflate their role and minimize the west, because the truth is that if the average Russian citizen had a clear-eyed understanding of WW2 they wouldn't want to be enemies with the west.
