Nigga, no one has ever had a problem with seasonal migrant labor on seasonal visas. We have a problem with illegal labor because the illegal undercuts the labor market overall. The illegal farm hand is the same as the illegal janitor. Together they diminish the wage floor, not to mention the owner pockets money that would contribute to labor insurance and taxes that raises costs for owners who hire legal labor. The migrant isn't the problem. The scumbag labor exploiter is.

I grew up in Salinas myself. My grandma was from Prunedale. She has died, but as a girl she used to pick strawberries. She knows what it's like to be in the fields. She saw the invasion of migrants. I never viewed it as that (I always thought it was kind of racist when she would say things like "the Mexicans", etc.) but honestly, I get it. The older I get, the more I see how shit is. To someone like my grandma who was damn near 60 when I was born, of course she was going to see the world different than I did--and I'm a Millennial

Additionally, I lived on a giant u-pick orchard and a sea of white people came to pick their own fruit, so much that we couldn't send any to sell at the local stores anymore.

I actually signed up to work on an organic farm when I was in college. The work was so miserable that me and my gf quit after the first week. The farmer isn't going to pay a better wage than anyone else and the work sucks. Genuinely need legal temp workers to do most of this backbreaking labor. We soft.
