always thought its origin is somewher in like "based in reality" while everyone else is living loony clown world.
Lately its use case kinda shifted to behaviour seen as assertive, independent or contrarian, likely originating from the though that these actions are based on your own sense of morality only and not coerced by society to adhere to social norms.
Hence why slur calling is often seen as "based", establishing the tribalistic idea of us, and our morality against them and theirs, not caring about superficial factors or third parties, only subject to the law of the tribe.
Therefore the word "based" is used as an indicator of common ideology.
Funnily this phenomenon transcends political lines, and nowadays, everyone sees their own little group as "based" and everyone else is "cringe", or in pols context "subhuman filth"
