The People’s Charter for Honest Democracy
## The People’s Charter for Honest Democracy

We the People, recognizing that democracy falters when corrupted by secrecy, money, and lies, declare that government, justice, and information must be restored to the light. This is not censorship. This is not control. This is accountability — the guarantee that power cannot be bought, that facts cannot be falsified, and that public service is a duty, not a path to private gain. To oppose these principles is to defend corruption, secrecy, and dishonesty against the people.

### I. Truth in Politics
* Public servants shall not knowingly make false claims about verifiable facts — such as election dates, official statistics, financial records, or how they voted. Any who oppose this stand for the right to lie to the people.
* Opinions, predictions, and values remain free speech. Only objective, falsifiable facts are bound by this rule.
* Enforcement rests with an Independent Verification Commission, composed of ordinary citizens chosen like jurors, supported by nonpartisan experts.
* Penalties:
* Deliberate lies disqualification from office or candidacy.
* Honest errors mandatory public correction with equal reach as the original claim.
* Those who resist this principle reveal their loyalty to deceit over democracy.

### II. Money and Influence
* No corporation, billionaire, or undisclosed donor may buy influence in government. To argue otherwise is to argue for oligarchy over democracy.
* Only individuals may contribute, and every contribution must be disclosed.
* Every citizen shall receive Democracy Vouchers — a share of public funds to support the party or candidate of their choice. Campaigns will be funded by millions of people, not millionaires.
* Lobbying as an industry shall end. Citizens, unions, and grassroots groups retain the right to petition government. But paid corporate lobbying is banned. Whoever defends corporate lobbying defends legalized bribery.
* Former politicians cannot lobby for at least 10 years, closing the revolving door.

### III. Transparency in Office
* Politicians and judges alike shall serve under Transparency Contracts:
* All assets, investments, and gifts disclosed in real time. To oppose this is to endorse secret deals and hidden wealth.
* All official communications logged and published. Personal family life remains private.
* National security secrecy permitted only for direct, demonstrable risks, independently reviewed and time-limited.
* In return for this loss of privacy, public servants shall receive:
* Fair salaries, above the national median, to deter corruption.
* Lifetime pensions and healthcare.
* Security for themselves and their families.
* Full restoration of privacy upon leaving office, after independent audits.
* Public office shall be a duty and an honor, not a means of enrichment. Those who resist transparency declare their intent to exploit power for personal gain.

### IV. Justice Without Partisanship
* Judges shall serve fixed, nonrenewable terms (18 years for the highest courts). To oppose this is to defend political capture of the judiciary.
* Selection shall combine independent merit panels with citizen confirmation juries.
* Significant and appealed rulings reviewed by a Judicial Review Council, made up of legal experts and randomly selected citizens.
* Judges earn Judicial Records of fairness and accuracy. Strong records allow advancement; poor records prevent it. Judges are removed only for misconduct, not for lawful rulings.
* Judges, like politicians, may not enter lobbying or corporate capture after service. Any who defend this revolving door defend corruption.

### V. Integrity in Media
* To call oneself *news* is to accept civic responsibility. Freedom of speech remains absolute for opinion, satire, and entertainment — but truth-in-labeling applies to news. Any outlet that rejects this standard admits its business is deception, not journalism.
* Standards for news outlets:
* Separate fact-based reporting from opinion and commentary.
* Correct factual errors with equal prominence as the original mistake.
* Disclose ownership, donors, and advertisers.
* Oversight by a Civic Information Council, composed of citizens selected like jurors, rotated frequently. Its sole role: to enforce transparency and corrections, never to dictate editorial positions.
* Outlets that reject these standards may publish freely, but not under the label of *news*.

### VI. Oversight and Guardianship
* Oversight shall rest with the people, not entrenched elites.
* Commissions shall be staffed by randomly selected, diverse citizens serving short, nonrenewable terms, supported by independent experts.
* All meetings, rulings, and records public.
* Each body limited to its domain — facts, ethics, judiciary, or media — with no authority over opinions, beliefs, or lawful expression.
* Those who oppose citizen oversight reveal their preference for unaccountable power.

### VII. Definitions
* Truth / Verifiable Fact: Facts measurable, recorded, or evidenced. Not predictions, opinions, or values.
* Transparency: Disclosure of assets, gifts, and official communications tied to public duties. Private life remains private.
* Oversight: Citizen and expert review of official actions, limited to disclosure, correction, and ethics. Oversight cannot control opinions or lawful expression.
* Judicial Record: A history of rulings, reviewed for fairness and legality. Used for advancement, not removal absent misconduct.
* News: Reporting presented as factual accounts of events or conditions. Opinion, commentary, satire, and entertainment must be clearly labeled.
* National Security Exception: Permitted only when disclosure poses direct, demonstrable risk to safety or defense. Must be independently reviewed, time-limited, and justified.
* Citizen Jury: Randomly selected, demographically diverse citizens drawn from registries, serving short, nonrenewable terms.

### Our Covenant

We the People pledge:
* That government shall serve citizens, not corporations. To deny this is to side with oligarchy.
* That truth shall mean facts, not propaganda. To deny this is to side with liars.
* That transparency shall protect liberty, not strangle it. To deny this is to shield corruption.
* That oversight shall belong to the people, not the powerful. To deny this is to defend tyranny.

Together, we reclaim democracy — equal in voice, sovereign in will, and bound not by secrecy, but by truth, fairness, and trust. Whoever stands against these principles stands not with the people, but against them.
