I'm currently 3 years sober after going through 1-2 handles of vodka a weekend for 10 years. It's hard to fully express the positive effect it's had.

Being able to wake up early in the morning on my weekends instead of staying in bed hungover is a real blessing. Food tastes better, and i dropped 100 pounds without changing anything else about my lifestyle. My days off feel lived in now instead of just drinking them away before the next work week.

And if you need some kind of substance abuse in your life a cigar outside on a cloudy day once in a blue moon is very relaxing. I'm not much of a nicotine person outside of that so i imagine it's less impacful if you already smoke.

Then you also get wine yeast and a hydrometer. The hydrometer is a floater piece of glas that will give you an estimated reading of what the alcohol content will be based on the sugar content of your mixture.
You go to the store and pick your favorite juice or concentrate (Without preservatives in it, it will kill the yeast so read the label)
Pour your choice of juice into the bucket, add sugar, take a reading with the hydrometer of the mixture.
When you see the alcohol percentage you want you're ready to add the yeast.
Sprinkle the yeast into the bucket, close the lid, stirr the mixture once every day to feed oxygen to the yeast the first week.
Then when the airlock stops bubbling after a week or so you need to rack it to another container a (Carboyd) for second fermentation where you'll leave it for as long as you want, even if you can probably drink it as it is.
At the second stage of fermentation you want to keep the contact with oxygen at a minimum, so fill the carboyd to the neck.
But it will improve with time.
After like two months you can bottle it.
You need to be sanitary with all the equipment to not induce bacteria, otherwise you'll be making vinegar.

I have been drinking daily for decades and my words on the subject are: I quit for a year as an adult in boring adult life and all I found is I wasn't having as much fun (ie making the daily grind bearable). I went back and it became more enjoyable again. If you're going to daily drink to intoxication maintain rules: not until 5, no driving, make sure you are not interrupted, and stop either from time or limit of alcohol on hand. That last one is more discipline: only buy what you need that night and no more. When its done it's done. Don't drink hard liquor. I usually only drink lower ABV beer because it extends the ritual and habit and you'll get drunk enough if you know your pace. Finally, figure out your amount. Time X booze=intoxication. Figure out the time you have open from starting to stopping drinking, tempo of drink, and next day schedule. If you get that all down, drink every fucking night. It just makes you being tired and not wanting to do anything on any given night at least feel enjoyable.

For all the poorfag alcohols ITT... picrel is by far the best value alcohol you can get. 190 proof grain alcohol. You then dilute it yourself down to whatever is drinkable for you. Notice I said "best value," not necessarily "cheapest." You might be able to find 80 proof vodka that's less expensive per unit alcohol, but that stuff will taste like some russian's sweaty taint. The 190 proof grain stuff is so pure it doesn't taste like anything "extra". There is no room for other garbage besides the alcohol molecules. So it ends up being way higher quality than even top shelf vodka if you simply dilute it with filtered water.
