The purpose of the pandemic was to psychologically prepare humanity for both mass death and their own death.
Whether by disease or vaccine, people believed many would die. Whether by disease, vaccine, collapse, a brutal police state, what have you; people accepted their own death.
It’s a subtle thing.
You were hardened, somewhat. Things seem a little more clear. There is definitely heightened paranoia, though you convince yourself it is healthy and wise. There is a little part of you that feels hopeless, but it seems easy to suppress. You laugh harder, but it doesn’t feel like it’s out of nervousness.
But most importantly, you are ready for the real thing. You know what it looks like, you know what it feels like. Whatever you felt before that was insufficient to drive you to action, you won’t even notice this time. You’ll wait, and you will wait, and you will wait for that outside force to act on you.
How unfortunate.
