Not really. This is generally how wikipedia policy turns out. In fact, on Wikipedia one of the rule is that they strive for "verifiability, not truth", among many other maxims just like that which you can go ahead and read on the site itself. I think there was a famous incident of such policy disputes in which the admin/founder noticed some incorrect information about himself or someone he knew and tried to edit it, but the information kept getting reverted because 'original research' is not permitted on Wikipedia, so the false information remained for years until it became notable enough that someone reported on it and he could get it changed. This happens a lot on the Wiki.
