By supporting Ukraine with more and better weapons against Russia, we could have easily forced Russia into a reckoning. There's no way of knowing how that would have turned out, but it would have been chaotic, and Russia is only geopolitically useful to China as a tightly controlled agent which can be relied upon to act predictably.

The second factor here, India, was more nebulous to be sure, but by supporting it and working towards friendship, we at the very least could have leveraged our relation to keep India and China as regional competitors rather than allies in global ambitions.

I think you're underestimating just how hard an objective Taiwan is. You're either looking at one of the most fortified ports in the world or literal miles of marshy sand approaching... some of the most fortified and dug-in mountainous positions in the world. It really doesn't take very long on Taiwan for the mountains to become incredibly dramatic no matter which direction you start.

China is a nation which hasn't fought a conventional war in a very long time. We really don't know what state its military is in -- if their TTPs are modern and effective, if their officers are meritorious promotions versus political appointments, how well they've integrated their NCO corps, etc. Everyone knows that the initial landings on Taiwan are going to be incredibly bloody as their completely green military marches into pre sighted firing solutions of a concentration which puts the Korean peninsula to shame.

For the west to function, The US need to be strong. If The US fails, The West fails. Its just how it is.

Think about it, if a whole bunch of mexicans are going to come into the USA and exploit all of our resources and destabilize the country (unwillingly) then I don't see why the USA hegemony wouldn't want to install itself on a largely unsettled and under-developed continent like South America.

The USA is pulling away from China because they're not really a threat to anything but taiwan, and USA is pulling out of europe because they don't float part of their defense spending, so its back to isolationism for the USA as there are a lot of domestic problems that need fixing. Not just rampant immigration, but the whole system is obsolete and needs a change or its going to fall apart. Huge institutions are becoming either corrupt or choked by bureaucracy, so, medical, education, infrastructure, housing, social contracts, all of those things need to be audited in someway or they will get worse.

Why not set eyes on this giant continent below the USA for some new perspective and, failing that, a whole bunch of new resources?

Sure, the U.S can turn to S.A, but even if we wrangle them into hitting carrying capacity, they'll never approach non-explicitly alligned afroceanieurasia in literally any metric, and if we pull out of afroceanieurasia, chinks can easily fill the vacuum. Worse yet, the chinks will be paying far less to suzerain a prime afroceanieurasian country, since what could've been a competing bid from the U.S is instead going into the dead end that is latinxoamerica
