He wasn't involved in the London bus bombings; police suspected that he knew the bombers but they never actually proved there was a link or that he contributed to the project, and he definitely wasn't involved in carrying out the bombings (obviously, because they were *suicide* bombings).
He was convicted of trying to set up a terrorist training camp in the US. He served his sentence there, and then it was the US that decided to release him.
When he was deported back to the UK he was detained in Broadmoor not because of his terrorist activities but because he's mentally ill. Far from being a terrorist mastermind, he's a paranoid schizophrenic and fantasist. Which doesn't mean he can't still be dangerous, but the news outlets portraying him as being responsible for 7/7 are hugely exaggerating.
