DVD and Bluray are types of CDs. The real hardcore archivers use M-Disk (which I think is similar to Blueray, you need a special drive to write them which costs 50$ish for a cheap one). For normalfags though just basic CDs will work.

You should use m-discs, they do not degrade in at least 1000 years. You have DVD m-discs but they need a special DVD m-disc capable writer to write to, or blu-ray. All blu-rays are m-disc capable, but make sure the blu-ray disc you burn to is an m-disc

Also, CDs have less space than DVDs, and blu-rays have more space than both. There are actually specifications. DVDs can have 2 layers while CDs only have one layer. Blu-rays can have up to 4 layers (although special writers/expensive writers needed to burn on 4 layers) and the wavelength of laser is higher thus allowing for more storage on same area.

The reason being the size/density of the layer where the data is.
As others said, pick Mdisc even for dvd : the dye layer on them is not organic, meaning they won't decay as quickly.
That said I have many CDs that still play perfectly since the early 90's (all of them I guess?) and many IDE HDD from that era that still work.
Rewritable disc use a photosensible layer to achieve this, meaning light COULD reset/decay data over decades exposed to the sun or a specific very high wattage lighting, but yes, it would happen before a non rewritable disc.
Make a few copies.

My anecdotal experience is that issue is greatly exaggerated. Even if it were real, the risk is still worth it vs the logistics of sifting through a 4TB stack of 40 non-rewritable M-Discs ($400) compared to a simple Ctrl+f on one 4TB SSD ($200). Hell if you are really worried about it just buy 2 SSDs for the same price.

If non powered storage is the issue, noise is not an issue : 4tb HDD is like $50-$120 depending on brand. Always make more than one copy for archives. Data is cheap nowadays.

Of course. I do redundant SSD copies on different brands in different enclosures stored in separate locations and my second is cloud storage. I stopped using HDD because of the speed and M-Disc is something everyone LOVES to talk about but probably only one person ITT even owns an optical drive.

ive just had 20TB go up in smoke all at once, 4 or 5 different devices both external and internal, hdds and ssds. that was all my back ups of backups etc!
all in one cross country move.
only thing left was ...thaasss ritte....the dvds and cds i had burned decade + earlier before cheap hdds and ssds! and so here i am.
i seriously think theres a possibility i had my vehicle hit with a ray gun that fried all the circuits or sumshit i dunno, I mean 5 gd devices?? even the ssds? i dunno. But anyways...the dvds lasted so, next time i move i dont have to fear...

cause i think theyre developingtech that easily fries these things and, once the sitrs are closed, they can fsu and since some are all cocky n shit (and cheap) they will not have burned to disk like they were warned and thought it was old fashioned or whatever and will fall right into the planned obsolescence trap that hdds and ssds are.
