Very interesting, this made me realize Jefferson's support of political parties WAS tattooed into my brain. It's the reason I've never registered to vote, and it's good to know another Founding Father shares my viewd

Problem is that having one big party was impossible because of core disagreement between federalists and anti federalists so

We're so far beyond this now, though.

We're not two political parties in opposition anymore. Now, it's one side that completely dehumanizes and demonizes the other side versus another side that completely dehumanizes and demonizes the other side.

I don't think there's an example of this sort of dichotomy existing in history without leading to massive civil upheaval and violence. Am I wrong? Maybe the Spartans and their constant hate/fear of the helots?

It's a puppetshow you midwit. There's one unified occupying force in this country and they're going to drain each citizen to the last fr their own shallow gain.

Go back where? Are you going to pretend plebbit isn't full to the fucking brim of one side of that equation or something? They're bloodthirsty liberal maniacs over there, completely unhinged.

Don't pretend there is any sort of political nuance to reddit. There isn't.

It was more than 10 years ago, I think. It really started in the Obama days, the cracks.

Once money was allowed into politics with Citizens United, it became a profit incentive to raise the political temperature in the US because people get more invested in politics if they're more emotionally invested -- and drama, drama is what gets people invested. So you saw cable news become more divisive, more inflammatory, and once the internet opened up -- well, easy peezy to just get people to spam your narratives over and over again until they catch on.

These are dark fucking times, man. I don't know where we go from here.

Any democracy is going to involve parties. Two parties here isn't any worse than the half dozen parties other countries have. Some idealistic version of every person individually, rationally, and logically participating in democracy just isn't realistic, and there's no framework you can implement it to force it.

It's just a fact of the form of government. It's ingrained.

checking digits and a great clip. He's right, we should ban "gang names" and "gang symbols" on ballots. Make people run on their name alone.

The founding fathers also hated property-less urbanites.
1776 Only people who own land can vote
Declaration of Independence signed. Right to vote during the Colonial and Revolutionary periods is restricted to property owners

George Washington, Gouverneur
Morris, John Dickinson, and James Madison spoke of their anxieties about the urban working
class that might arise some time in the future---โ€œmen without property and principle,โ€ as
Dickinson described them---and even Jefferson shared this prejudice. Madison,
state the problem.
"In future times, a great majority of the people will not only be without
landed or any other sort of property. These will either combine, under
the influence of their common situationโ€”in which case the rights of property
and the public liberty will not be secure in their handsโ€”or, what is more
probable, they will become the tools of opulence and ambition, in which case
there will be equal danger on another side."

"Democracy, will soon degenerate into an anarchy, such an anarchy that every man will do what is right in his own eyes, and no man's life or property or reputation or liberty will be secure and every one of these will soon mold itself into a system of subordination of all the moral virtues, and intellectual abilities, all the powers of wealth, beauty, wit, and science, to the wanton pleasures, the capricious will, and the execrable cruelty of one or a very few." -- John Adams
