I had two strange experiences recently. I was renting a house in Tennessee. It was kind of a shitbox in hindsight but they did a flip with new paint and floors and tricked me. Eventually I learned a guy had died of alcoholism in the bedroom I was sleeping in and another guy, who I met, had been smoking meth. Eventually his crazy meth writing in purple paint started to show through the white paint in the other room I was using as my office. The whole property emanated a very evil and offsetting feeling, other people would comment on it. I never felt truly alone in that house, and granted if anything like this has happened to me it's been a very long time and I've lived and stayed in a lot of different places.
I only stayed there a year before deciding I wanted to leave. The week before I was prepping to move, a lot of stress and upheaval in the house obviously as I boxed and organized. About a week before I was to leave I was woken up at 3am by very loud knocking, the sound of a human hand knocking, against what seemed like either the floor just below my pillow or the wall just behind it, or both, I couldn't tell. I was convinced immediately someone was in the empty garage space underneath me, like a drifter or something from the main drag the house was just off of. The knocking was rhythymic, like someone trying to get your attention and lasted for about 2 to 3 minutes. Finally it stopped and I looked around, but saw no one. There was no moon, it was pitch black outside, I had my phone ready to call the police. It could've only been an animal, or some sort of ongoing structural failure in the foundation of the house or something. I pray it's one of those two things, but it doesn't really explain how rhythymic and deliberate it was, and how close it was in the house to exactly where I was asleep.
