He absolutely is one of the people who started this back when he was pushing the birth certificate shit at Obama way back, something he knew was patently untrue but served to increase his popularity and push him into the political realm.
Trump has dialed up the temperature of rhetoric from the beginning. His entire gimmick is being the crude guy who pulls no punches and shits on his opponents. He did it at the Republican debates first and he has never stopped because it worked. And now, all of the wild claims he's made to dehumanize the left has resulted in the left dehumanizing the right and adopting the same policies.
One side gets radicalized and extreme, so does the other, and here we are.
There are liberals just as guilty as Trump for turning up the heat.
As an American, our democracy died when the Supreme Court approved Citizens United, ruling corporations are people and can donate to political campaigns with a free-hand. This made our political machine have a profit motive in an open and obvious way which is unprecedented in history, so now everything pushes to get people more upset, more emotionally involved in politics, and the easiest way to do that is by getting more and more extreme, dialing up the rhetoric, making people hate it each. It fuels cable news and news websites and podcasts which fuel ads which fuel corporations which fuel Super PACs and basically we're all fucked.
