yeah, it's going to have a chilling effect on political discourse especially at the campus level, which is arguably where it is most important. Reminder that in a decade the left has not at all moderated itself. Back in 2016 Milo's Dangerous Faggot tour had to be cancelled because of leftist riots and he was nowhere near as popular or successful as Kirk. Still, he was never the victim of violence.

The result of this is going to be less political events on campuses. When events do happen, the speakers will be like the president in that they'll be behind bulletproof glass and barriers. There will likely be no more outdoor speeches, they will all move indoors and all students will have to be treated like potential criminals and go through metal detectors one by one just to have a "free" exchange of ideas. If organizations don't do this, then they likely won't be able to have any kind of insurance against negative outcomes, and hosting the events will become prohibitively expensive anyway.

The end result will be that political debate will become even more online than it already is, which means echo chambers will intensify, and extremism will increase on both sides of the proverbial aisle.

There's no silver lining here, this is unprecedented. It's even worse if they never catch the shooter
