I discovered IDOS.cz and it's a fantastic site (and app) that can plan routes that include trains, trams, and buses. Buying tickets can still be a challenge, especially train tickets because the "ticket there and separate ticket back" is usually most expensive so you have to ask for a roundtrip ticket and sometimes there are special ticket classes with discounts if you meet criteria (like holiday, or destination). Easy stuff for a native, but for a tourist much more of a challenge :-)

If you live in a small town you of course rely more on a car out of necessity.
I like CZ public transport. Almost all trains have a conductor. In US that would be almost unheard of. If I know a conductor is on board I feel better even if I see a pack of gypsie-looking kids get on the train.
Schedules are also thought out with lots more trains/buses during peak commute hours. Overall a nice system! Unfortunately it takes more time than car, but it's often very cheap and there are always some tradeoffs

I'll be in Karlovy Vary region for a while starting next week. Looking forward to soft autumn weather.

Czech Republic is a nice visit since it's clean and if you're a white American you'll be surrounded by white people which is nice. Prague is tourist hell, but even it is above western tourist cities.
