I have zero concrete evidence of any of them actually being spys.
It just makes sense. If I was the CIA, I would totally recruit travelvloggers. They get in everywhere and have the perfect excuse to interact with the most crazy radical locals.
I remember watching these 2 guys way back in the day. Its called ADVCHINA I think. They would ride around China on their bikes talking about it. Very interesting and kinda chill listening to them talk about China and watch the nice scenery go by. They were always very respectful and didn't travel to sensitive places. Just normal cities doing normal things.
Then one day, something changed in their videos. They started going to all these crazy controversial places. They started interviewing locals about sensitive topics. They started filming things that they shouldn't be filming and going places they shouldn't be going as visa holders. Before long they were being followed by the CCP and eventually they got kicked out. Of course they claimed racism and started making shitty CHINA BAD videos from America and their channels eventually died I think.
I just remember thinking why? They seemed very happy in China. They were married to Chinese women and had decent standard of living. Nobody was bothering them. Why start doing things they knew the Chinese government wouldn't like and could get them kicked out?
I think the CIA recruited them to spy. I think the CCP realized this too and kicked them out. Just a theory but it makes sense. What better cover is there to go everywhere and film everything? Its perfect.
