Nah, it's the other way around. Marriage law is quite sensible here and shit like prenups and American-style divorce rape are rather rare. Plus everything is very simple procedurally. So a lot of younger people just do it on a whim only to break apart a couple years later. Compare that to Germany with its insane divorce laws and taxes or France that had to invent a whole "marriage lite" arrangement like PACS.

The reason around marriage is probably the same as in most western countries. Some wants to settle down and have kids. Women in general don't care what kind of job you have, they primarily just want you to be responsible and somewhat charismatic. You don't have to look like a Hollywood star.

Laws are heavily involved.

In Finland marriage brings the responsibility to take care of the very basic needs of your spouse (food, right to live in your apartment, medicine etc.). There's also inheritance stuff and e.g. the right to live in an aparment partially inherited by your kids if you die (50% goes to wife, 50% is divided among kids).

These work both ways but women are often losers who earn much less, thus any 50/50 situation benefits them.

ONLY IF you let go of being successful, you can benefit from your wife. This includes falling ill, so there are benefits in case your health fails.

It's actually a good system but it does not favor healthy, successful men. It favors women, but it was made to favor women in much harder times, when they would lose everything if they were left by their man.
