They don't abandon these things to protest, and they don't throw them away to commit capital crimes. They are fighting different kinds of war.
The left wing is fighting a desperate war for the survival of "our democracy" i.e. the state they've built. If it goes away, they are incomplete human beings who would be devastated.

The right wing doesn't need the state all that much, and our main priority is not the destruction of the lefties but living our own lives. So we don't fight. Or we fight for "principle", which means fighting for the tie rather than the win, generally a stupid idea.

I don't have a good solution for this. It's probably what has happened to empires repeatedly in history.
It might help to repeatedly read leftist texts like "rules for radicals" to know what the left is thinking, and even use the ideas ourselves. I don't know if we would be committed enough, but I think we can win if it comes to all out effort on both sides.
