I disagree with this interpretation. I think we'd be far better off if we had strong militias.

That way we could optimize gun rights to maximize safety, while still having organized institutions providing for our defense against the government. These militias would train, do drills, and bring the community together. Because they are so well disciplined, they would be afforded the privilege of owning a higher caliber of weaponry, including actual military hardware such as tanks/RPG's/drones.
This solution would give young men a purpose, and bring communities together in a way that frees them from central federal control to some degree.

The NRA right now is opposing things like background checks, registration, and other policies that directly contribute to mass shootings. They are doing this because they believe any undue restriction on civilian firearm ownership represents tyranny, and the price of blood is worth it. But what if you didn't have to choose? What if you could implement reasonable restrictions, while still furnishing defense against a rogue state through community militias?
