SEGA ILLEGALLY RAIDED A GUY'S HOUSE AND STOLE DEVKITS IN BONGLADESH
>sega uk sells a bunch of prototype cartridges and devkits off to a recycler, no requirement that they actually have to be disposed of
>some guy buys them from the recycler for 10k, a preservation group agrees to buy them off him for more to dump online
>some dipshit goes to the guy and tells him not to sell to them and gives a higher offer
>preservation group makes an unsuccessful fundraiser to save the carts from hoard nigger hell
>suddenly the guy gets raided by the uk police
>they steal all the carts and devkits
>previously mentioned dipshit turns out to have been a fed
>court will not show an actual warrant or case number
>send the guy a letter telling him to relinquish ownership, acknowledging they're fucking thieves
>we lost a rhythm thief prototype for the original ds because of this

>sega uk sells
If they sold it, the other guy owns it and can sell it to whoever he wants. The fact that they keep "selling" stuff and you don't actually own them is why no one cares about piracy. How is it any more stealing than buying and not owning it?

They were clearly nip phobic considering it was probably Nintendo involved.
>>515639790
The thing is that these were Nintendo devkits that weren't meant to be resold. I wouldn't be surprised if they told Sega to get it back or never release a game on their consoles again.

Funny thing is a preservation group made the seller an offer he had already agreed to, then a mysterious sinister gentleman convinces him to not sell it with the promise of giving him far more money resulting in the preservationists getting backstabbed. Then the seller gets fucked over instantly by the police.

it was pure greed, he could have made easy money selling it to a good cause but fell for the devil's promises of a few extra bucks

Reminds me of the time nintendo or Hasbro for Pokemon or MtG accidentally sent out some dev cards to a streamer, and they raided his house ON STREAM WITHOUT A WARRANT PRETENDING TO BE POLICE

Sega trying to 1-Up Nintendo for dick of the year award.
This is why I have zero moral qualms about piracy. If I pirate your media, it's mine. And Nintendo nor Sega will do shit about it.
China needs to set up a site so you can freely pirate non-Chinese media.

>nintendo handed it to sega
>sega sold it
Sega is a big video game company, not some bootleger "pst kid, wanna buy some devkits?" There's no way the buyer had any reason to suspect it was illegal to purchase those. He acted in good faith, it's not a criminal case. At best a civil one, so Sega should have to pay the damages to Nintendo, and dunno UK law, maybe the guy could be forced to hand back the items while being compensated monetarily for them and the emotional damages or something. Cops and raiding shouldn't be anywhere near this shitshow.

Idk their law but this is what my idea of what feels right.
