I’m not sure why people are failing to understand this.
Once you have categorized someone as an enemy, you’ve dehumanized them. People on the right and left do this all the time. And it’s part of the inherent brainrot of American politics. George Washington knew this day would come which is why he so vehemently opposed the formation of political parties. They naturally produce tribalism. Which naturally becomes even more unruly when there’s only two options for the people to really choose from. This dichotomy is the true sickness of America. Division here is drawn more starkly than in other countries as a result.
“If you’re with us, you’re against us.”
“They hate our way of life.”
“They deserve it.”
These common sentiments have emboldened hatred between people because these groups believe the other side wants them dead. They view any affront to their routine or the way things are done as a potential threat to their existence.
Thankfully, most Americans don’t care about this as they’re entirely apathetic. This is a war being waged by mentally ill and very vocal radicals/grifters who have nothing better to do with their time other than seethe about people they’ve never met or spoken to. So at least it’s an entertaining spectacle. As long as the economy isn’t completely kaput, the average American is placated.
