I keep reading about communist movements across the world.

To me it feels more like lib-leftism is to people today what the failed post-industrial system was to people in the past. Everyone can see that it has failed, but we haven't converged on "the one true alternative" yet.

There's also the fact that people today are more fragmented and atomized than people in the past due to the nature of multiculturalism. When 99% of your country is people just like you people feel more inspired to take action because they are being affirmed by all the people around them. In the past you had the same politics as your dad, friends etc so acting earns respect from the people close to you. Today everyone has to hide their politics from their dad, friends etc so acting comes at the cost of your relationships.
