its very easy to blame all your problems on one thing. that one thing then becomes a sort of mega evil and life looks simple, you just oppose that with everything you have.
this is the appeal of the left. Once someone starts thinking that way, they invent layers upon layers of rationalization that further convinces them. You find other people who agree with you and the utter hatred of that thing becomes common and everyday, so that you become emboldened in expressing it, its no longer a taboo or something to be careful with. You get swept up and then go and do something like this, seeing yourself as a great hero.
This is what drives the leftist. They pick a thing and blame everything on that. In the past it might be economics, then race or patriarchy, sexuality, the west and colonialism. Whatever the thing they identify the singular great evil then must purify themselves of it through virtue signaling and then go proselytize it and violently oppose everyone else.
This just happens to be 'the left', in truth some on the right do this. left and right is sort of arbitrary. What you have are people who do what i described above and people who see different problems as being their own thing. These people are more reasonable and so tend to be more conservative because humans have worked out how to be a society pretty well by now. This is the true divide, those who fall for rationalizing all problems to a single cause and those who dont.
