You can have an AR, it just might not be a very good looking one.

cuz leftoids are stupid retards who don't know anything about guns and think the scarier a gun looks the more deadly. reality is that most crimes are committed with handguns.

it's actually pretty comfortable
the gap is just so it can't be labeled as a thumbhole stock and therefore a scary "assault" feature

hunting rifles are much less dangerous than an AR
Maybe not in 1v1 combat but you can’t do a mass shooting with a hunting rifle as easily as with an AR

there are states that have assault weapons laws that make AR ownership more difficult
this is separate from any magazine capacity laws so lets take that out of the equation
these laws are usually vague and rely on labeling certain features as evil because states can't outright ban semiautomatic firearms or ban ARs by name
these evil features are common ones on ARs, so it effectively bans them for most people not willing to work within the confines of the laws
CA and NY are actually more chill than you'd expect while still having the annoying laws simply because they were the first ones to implement them
Anonymous (ID: uusLpzq7) United States No.515807559 >>515807945 >>515807945
>>515807030
so in NY, the law is any rifle is an 'assault weapon' if
1. it's semi-automatic
2. can accept a detatchable magazine, and
3. has any one of a category of scary 'assault' features, such as:
pistol grip
folding or telescoping stock
forward grip that conspicuously hangs down
thread barrel that can accept a muzzle device
muzzle device sych as flash hider, compensator, or muzzle break (but not silencer/suppressor because that has its own separate law making them illegal)
grenade launcher (seriously, the law specifies grenade launcher)
Anonymous (ID: uusLpzq7) United States No.515807945 >>515808871
>>515807559
how then, you may ask, can you have ARs at all?
so the law requires all three criteria I outlined to be present in order for a rifle to be considered an assault weapon
if you don't meet any one of the three, it's not an assault weapon
so what people can do is get around one of the three criteria to have a legal rifle
you can have a featureless rifle >>515806221 that can still accept detachable magazines but can't have any of the scary assault features
you can have a fixed magazine rifle >>515807559 where you can have all the scary features you want but your magazine has to be affixed to the rifle (the definition of fixed is different for each state that has this assault weapons law, but ironically CA has the most lenient one)
or you could create an AR that functions as a bolt action rifle and have both features and detachable magazines

1. it's not a question of need, but it's great for pest control like coyotes and hogs
2. AR doesn't stand for automatic rifle, it doesn't even stand for assault rifle. it stands for Armalite Rifle, where Armalite was the name of the company that originally made ARs
