There's been a radical shift in average IQ as well. Back in the days you had mostly high IQ tech bros and they were capable of bouncing around concepts and astracts. But to the average midwit these concepts and abstracts are real. They're not capable of handling it intellectually.

The thing with 4chan is, that it is anti-social, not personalized, not targeted at all.
People on here are "Anonymous", which enables them to speak their mind without being pressured into alignment at any point.
Beyond the risk of losing an argument (or seeing a shocking image), 4chan is without much risk to the mental health.
Meanwhile r*ddit forces its users into alignment, which takes a heavy toll on the minds of young people in their formative years.

I would add as well that people on here are as civil as they are despite having near total freedom to be as shitty as they want.
