I think it's starting to hit him just how badly he fucked up by admitting he did it to both his dad and the pastor.
That implication alone will strengthen the prosecution's case more than any amount of DNA evidence or discord messages (which will also be used). When his defence lawyer learned this, he/she probably would've been thinking "for fuck sake Tyler..."
The defence lawyer will now realize how monumentally difficult it is to create any doubt that Tyler was the killer. It would require both dad and the pastor to sign sworn statements retracting his confession, which carries a perjury risk.
Tyler Robinson is likely now being advised to propose a plea deal of life in prison with no possibility of parole to be spared the death sentence. Just hearing that is probably going to reduce him to tears. He thought he had it all figured out and that he couldn't be caught. Probably thought lawyering up would fix things, but a defence lawyer can only do so much following a confession.
