The EU Council has extended sanctions against Russia for another six months, until March 15, 2026. The measures apply to over 2,500 individuals and entities, including asset freezes, travel bans, and restrictions on providing funds. The EU said the sanctions remain in response to Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine. Two names were removed from the list, one due to death, another not renewed.

It's so funny seeing VPNZiggers saying things are fine, and meanwhile Russia's own central bank is talking about "Fundamental Weakness" in the Russian state.
The National Wealth Fund of Russia is effectively out of liquid assets to cover the budget. They can't really sell the illiquid ones because there's little capital in the Russian economy to buy so many assets.
Russia's banks can't really buy that many Russian government bonds to cover the deficit because they already took on almost $500 billion in war-related industrial debts that the state promised to back. Meanwhile deposits are shrinking, people are moving to cash, silver/gold, and bitcoin for transactions. Multiple banks have already asked for bailouts, which the government cannot do because it has no money to bail them out with.
Worsening the situation is that oil&gas revenues are still sinking (same with coal), tax receipts are cratering because non-military industry is already in a deep recession, and the whole system is starting to jam up.
There's a reason why some oligarchs are already saying this will be worse than the 90s. They are already weathering gails from a hurricane and the storm isn't even fully here yet.
