Within an hour of it happening most normal people were settled on the fact that the bullet hit a small chest plate (greatly reducing it's speed) then went up into his head. The deformation of the round is why it made such a huge hole and cause so much intense bleeding. The reduction in its speed after hitting the plate is why it no longer had the force to exit his head but would have done insane damage before it came to a stop, possibly near the top of this brain.
