My current opinion is that the models by necessity have some kind of world model inside them but they are still pretty dumb. Because majority of data pushed into them is math and programming they can be good at that, but it is overfitting or borderline overfitting where they just pull existing knowledge instead of properly generalizing. And there are a lot of problems in general that aren't being addressed or there is no way to even address them.
