The American Psychiatric Association is a private body which has long been politicized and is solely responsible for the DSM which effectively defines what qualifies as a mental illness. This is why by no means should anyone be allowed to draft laws which curtail or grant rights based on mental health status in any capacity becuase it serves to grant a private body with no public oversight an inordinate and frankly disturbing amount of power and influence over the populace and their rights. There's plenty of precident there as to why that is a terrible idea. The political abuse of psychological is a well documented phenomenon that's been recurrent through history in the modern era serving various different agendas across the entire spectrum of political ideologies depending on the time and place. Psychiatry and politics have a long, dark, deeply intertwined history of abuse going back to the very inspection of the field. The American Psychiatric Association needs a good long look taken at it and lobbying needs to be completely gutted and dismantled to mitigate the politizing of industry regulatory bodies before you can even give a single thought to any red flag law for anyone as being maybe even slightly reasonable and even then it's still a bade idea and sets precedent to be used as a weapon against people.
