I definitely think that Christianity served a central role in creating a sense of social harmony, which was important to the flourishing of Western Civilization. In essence, the spirit of Jesus is one of tolerance and forgiveness and universality where it really seems to run into problems is with dealing with serious existential threats to society. And frankly, I think that that is supposed to be under the purview of Caesar or the law. As for the foreign character of Christianity, consider that Rome was bounced to come under some unified church or another. If it hadn't come from Palestine it would have probably come from Syria or Greece or Sicily or whatever and then we would have Sicilians all over the place lording it over us because our religion would have originated in Sicily

What ended up happening? Was this intellectual tradition left behind its Christian beginnings? With the most obvious example being the way the development of Earth science rendered the biblical story of creation inaccurate
