Germans were in a race for time and didn't prepare for Russia to make a fighting retreat. The entire plan was to get oil and get Russia to surrender, but they failed at both since Russia was given a infinite money/supply glitch from the US and Britain, while italy's fuck ups diverted needed resources to a battle German really didn't want to fight in. Finally on top of all this, the stresses of war got to the German leadership, as Hitler himself was basically out of his mind on drugs while his generals were playing glory seeker (which they would then blame Hitler for "getting in there way")

the invasion was critically delayed by the need to help Italy, Italy should wait for major players to get knocked out before going solo.
Hitlers faggotry in disregarding his generals and slamming against Stalingrad for no tatical reason.
Just put the caucasus oil in the fucking bag, bro.

Hitler was right to go for Stalingrad, poor execution though, and terrible outcome due to spies who ranged from shit to actively working for the enemy.
The fact that the wehrmacht even conducted a massive offensive in 1942 spoke to how they made the right decision. They caught the Soviets by surprise with the southern thrust. If they had made a move for Moscow again it would have not resulted in much ground gained.

whats the significance of stalingrad for the german war effort for you? capturing moscow would disconnect the entire soviet railway system from itself, their army relied on trains for logistics first and foremost

That braindead faggot hitler. If he'd let his air marshals continue to bomb UK airfields and factories he could've forced Britain to a truce (invasion was never going to happen) and freed up enough forces for the eastern campaign.
But instead the 1 balled meth addict insisted on "revenge" attacks against cities and lost the Battle of Britain. What a retard.
they killed themselves unironically Mao was right the soviets basically didn't live up to their ideology and it made them weak and eventually a handful of people collapsed the whole thing.

stalingrad was how they brought oil up from Baku and the Caucuses, cutting that off would have protected the flank and secured the oil fields for Germans
>>516056244 >We didn't even try
Keeek, Russians have only stopped couple of offensive wars due to internal conflicts >>516055759
No more Karelia for you
The Germans were behind schedule by like day 3
You idiots are arguing about Moscow and winter when the Germans own plan called for them to be 300 miles past Moscow by October.
It was never going to work. They were already rationing fuel, scaling down offensives, changing operational objectives, and falling increasingly behind schedule within the first 6 weeks.
