So empathy, modeling, intimacy are all natural, but can become emotionally misdirected socially. For example, if a male feels they cannot compete as a social strategy to gain safety and allegiance with males, he may become so distressed as to use the feminine strategy of cooperation instead, or submission and deference to gain the same rewards.
A current problem is normalization. For someone to imagine this recurring wish as a lifestyle, they have to learn from a previous generation that this is even possible.
Its also worth noting that compulsive same sex ideation is commonly, once normalized, associated with an aversion to females. However this aversion is not unique to those with same sex interest. However the learned lifestyle simply assumes it, so they become intertwined. However they are distinctly different motivations.
The point is that same sex physically intimate interest is entirely natural *in that stage of development and if other controls are in place*.
However if it persists, advances to random persistent explicitly "sexual" desire, becomes compulsive, involuntarily entrenched and reinforced, then normalized intellectually and compounded with "identity", you end up seeing the person suffer the manifold problems we see today...
