i think that is muzzle flash captured in a reflection. light is faster than the sound. we can estimate distance of the shooter using the few frames between the muzzle flash. sound of gunshot which comes after the flash, and time for charlie to be hit. super impose that information topographically on a map, we use the determined radius to spot all possible shooting positions that the science permits. and using the position of the camera to triangulate muzzle flash to hit, and measure the sound recording versus visual flash recording times. and you can triangulate more precisely.
