There's no nuke safe place here, although I can speculate which direction it will strike, and how far away.
>the advantage of having a military base nearby
First I grab the gas mask, because the building is likely to be severely damaged and catch fire.
Then I grab the mattress thing and toss it out the patio door, then hide under that laying along the wall, using the house for cover, and wait for the shockwave to pass.
In case I'm still alive then I'll put on the gas mask if necessary and move somewhere less radioactive after salvaging whatever is laying around.

Considering that's London being nuked and I live about 200 miles away.
I'll run the water immediately to fill up some buckets, perhaps fill the bath tub. Close all windows and vents, duct tape seal around all external doors and windows too.
Got enough food for a week or more, and a camping stove and gas should the electricity or gas supply fail. Wait 2 weeks.

In fact, if I have another 20 seconds to spare, which probably I do, I should hide behind neighbours house. Theirs is shielded by a 1.5 storey taller building across the road, while I have open street, and even while I run across the street that taller building will protect me from direct exposure to the flash, the shockwave is likely to arrive about 5 seconds later.
Anonymous (ID: eR05URBP) Germany No.516555293
Wonder how well some kind of personal thermos flask would work to survive nuke. Given a solid steel shell and proper mounting it should insulate from the thermal flash and shockwave. Lead is cheap so slap some of that on the outside, but any material works for shielding in sufficient quantity, for instance:
May be ideal to make it some kind of trapdoor thing you jump into, like a missile silo in your yard, except it's yoursilo. Everything will pass over it, meaning it can withstand an even closer detonation, possibly down to 1km, if it's a small tactical nuke.
Just make sure nothing ends up laying on the lid.

I live far from any targets, very rural. My best bet is to remain indoors for as long as necessary, to avoid fallout. I've got a couple of months worth of food and water. After that it's time to go out scavenging.

Not exactly. Just make sure the electronics are all covered in a solid metal shell, like a Faraday cage on crack cocaine, as in: not a cage but solid walls, nothing less will suffice.
EMP doesn't go through a solid conductor, and you probably won't need perfect hermetic sealing, because if you do you're almost certainly too close to survive the blast.
Mainly the thermal flash you have to worry about in the first milliseconds.
>everything that can burn and is exposed to the flash will burn
Fortunately the shockwave that arrives a few seconds later will put out the fires.
Unfortunately stuff starts flying around.
If you get that far and can still breathe you're fine for a couple minutes at least, depending on whether everything around you is on fire again or not. If that also isn't an issue you'll be okay for two days or so untill you get dat radioactive contamination.

That's not exactly true. Just hide behind something very massive that ideally won't fall on top of you. People in basements or subways will survive some pretty close nuclear detonations.
For a while at least. Not an enviable position to be in.
In terms of effects, besides the thermal pulse, it's just a big high explosive bomb. Meaning if you're not exposed to the flash and shielded from the shockwave you're fine, sort of. Maybe.

60 Seconds?! Thatโ€™s a stretch.
You would at least get a few hours to prepare in a normal scenario.
Anyway, assuming I do have 60 seconds this is the plan:
>Equip gas mask, weapons, bag with supplies, weapons
>Change into combat uniform
>Shove cat in pet carrier
>Carry everything down to my fallout bunker (a small, concrete bicycle store room with no windows and very thick walls)
>Stay in shelter and protect my pet and supplies with my life until itโ€™s safe to evacuate

Assuming itโ€™s a gradual build up of events and I get a few hours to prepare, I would do the same as this post >>516560363 - Except instead of going to the store room Iโ€™d take supplies to my car and drive very far away and set up a camp in a remote area, either in tents or an abandoned shelter.
This would be the goal even if I did have to stay in the store room. The only difference is if I only had 60 seconds to prepare I would have to hunker down somewhere urban until itโ€™s safe to travel.
You can skip the fallout shelter step if you have extra prep time.

Electric bikes are utterly retarded in a SHTF scenario, itโ€™ll be good for the first two hours and then youโ€™ll never be able to charge it or use it again. What you want is a car with a full tank of fuel, 120L of petrol in Jerry cans, and a manual single gear bike in the boot that is piss easy to maintain should anything go wrong on it, chains and tyres can be salvaged off other bikes if you must. This way you will have the car to get you ages away from the zone and always have some form of transportation should the car fail or fuel become scarce.
The best vehicle in an apocalypse would unironically be a bmx

While you do need a full face mask, obviously, and ideally even a rebreather set with compressed air or oxygen just in case, you're fine with a bunch of military surplus filters and disposable overalls, or even a few raincoats and rubber boots.
Also bring a Geiger counter, heh, because obviously your entire job should be staying out of heavily contaminated areas, not operating there.

Most modern chemical weapons are nerve agents, you are fucked without a constant dose of antidotes. Even if you have full CBRN gear, you're fucked without them.

For fallout, N95 masks, goggles and disposable suits are more than enough. Proper decontamination is key, of course.

There's the fire problem still.
If you're anywhere near a nuclear explosion odds are shit's on fire yo, so please get a proper full face gas mask and filters.
You can get fema tier equipment for 200 bucks, although to deal with really serious situations you'll need to shell out another 2-300 for a used rebreather set and tanks.
While you're at it: buy one of those fire department overcoats made from Aramid fibers. It can withstand some 800 degrees. Would probably even let you survive fairly close exposure to the flash.
Also helps to prevent you from getting toasted by fires that aren't yourself.
Surplus fire department, disaster relief and military gear all is pretty affordable.

Nukes are as real as the holocaust.

Picture related, the literal smoking gun proof that nukes are fake.

A flash, trivial in post-production, and then a huge, rising, swirling FIREBALL, actively burning, PRODUCING black smoke. Black carbon smoke. Why is there a huge column of particulate carbon smoke? Where is the carbon coming from? Particulate carbon couldnโ€™t exist in the conditions of an atmospheric nuclear explosion (hot and oxygen rich), and the carbon itself is inexplicable.
>i-its just really hot air!
Thereโ€™s a word for โ€œreally hot airโ€ Plasma, does this look like plasma? Does plasma produce smoke? This is not plasma, this is not hot air, this is a pyrotechnic display.
>i-its dust!
We can see dust kicked up at the peripheral, this is not dust, dust is not carbon black.
>t-thats a fake video
While technically correct (as nukes are fake). That is an authentic military film from the Teapot MET โ€œnuclear weaponโ€ detonation. Claimed to be 22kt yield.

>the flash
Why does the light from the โ€œnukeโ€ not interact with the environment in the film? The scene fades in after the flash, we should be observing the light shift from nuke illumination to sun illumination, but the lighting in the larger scene does not change at all, no shadows moving, no change in the background hills, no change in the foreground, the flash shows no signs of being from the scene, merely an after-effect applied to the entire film frame in post-production.

>muh Hiroshima, muh Nagasaki
Zero radiation, zero increased cancer rates, destruction indistinguishable from other large fire bombings of the war (Dresden etc), brutal censorship regime after the war that destroyed medical records and punished any questioning of the nuke narrative.

Fake and gay.

i saw a lecture on the subject. in general, any concrete structure would be enough to withstand an explosion like the one in hiroshima but in terms of survival it's 50 50.
most of the buildings in japan were made of paper and wood, that's why they turned to dust.

not true. Unless a major power wants to specifically eradicate Germany, all plans leave decent spots where nothing drops.

the good news is that a nuke would finally teach Germans how friendly nonwhites behave in extreme situation. The bad news is that most survivors would not outlive the lesson.

If you're in a city, you're fucked unless it's the opposite side.
Even then, the best case scenario means you somehow got your hands on enough iodine pills, your larder can get you through the next month and they manage to fix water access.

While a full scale nuclear world war would ultimately be great for the White race, 99+% would of us would do the dying thingie, including slow, painful and futile tribal mini war for irradiated food scraps.

Remember that the types of weapons that would plausibly be used today would be far stronger than the early ones from the 40s. MIRV warheads can have yields in the hundreds of kt, and modern construction is far less resistant to these forces.
These types of wooden apartments in the US would be fucking annihilated, for example.

thing is that the power of blast is not the most significant factor.
they need the explosion to be able to expand and damage as much of the area as possible, which is why the bomb's ignition happens hundreds of meters above the ground.
a bigger explosion doesn't necessarily make it more efficient, the tsar bomb, for example, was virtually useless in these respects.

It's easily one of the most significant factors.

While this is true, it does not contradict what I said.
>a bigger explosion doesn't necessarily make it more efficient
To an extent, it actually does. You get better yield as you scale up. Obviously there's a practical upper limit, but that's beside the point, because we're talking about deployed weapons, not tests.

i don't remember exactly, but there's a formula for a square area where the power of the explosion becomes irrelevant.

Yes, this is true for every explosive weapon. Area of effect is not linear to explosive power.
The point he was making (in very simplified terms) is that bigger bombs do not inherently mean a similar increase in damage due to the way that they are deployed. For example, a B83 has a different use case from missiles.

You can't run from a nuclear bomb blast. You'd have to be in your car the second the missiles launched and going warp 9. Think you can clear 100 miles in nine minutes? Because that's about as long as you'll have.

Absolute muppet retard, here.

Newsflash: The "Civil Defense" meme in America was just for the illusion of safety. In the event of a nuclear attack the government would say NOTHING.

Why?

To keep the highways and evac routes clear for themselves and permit air travel out of the affected area.

As many have noted, at this close of a range in the photo:
- You've already received 50% or more of the radiation from the air burst unless you were behind a thick concrete wall
- Are probably doomed to have all the breathable air ripped away within 5-30 seconds from seeing this once the shock wave reaches you
- You'll most likely be incinerated and/or flung a great distance at a great speed in any moment from said shock wave

In this instance, I'd probably try to pray my timeline resets and I wake up in an alt-universe with this being a dream. Would much rather that be the case than survive from this vantage point.

Surviving this would most likely entail:
- Significant radiation sickness over the coming weeks
- charred body from burns due to heat and pressure changes
- broken bones from being flung into stuff, let alone impacted by the shock wave itself
- being permanently deaf

If you happened to be underground in a subway tunnel, it would probably suck as well due to there being zero containment doors to the outside at station entrances or tunnel ends. The airbust would suck all the air out of the tunnels, so if the radiation and heat didn't reach you, then you'd probably have to hold your breath for 30-60 seconds, if the pressure drop didn't rip the air right out of your lungs. IF you survive this, the first breath you'd take once air rushes back into the tunnels would be full of smoke, radioactive particulates, and ash consisting of burnt insulation and hazardous materials common in construction. Hopefully it wasn't a hydrogen bomb because any significant cratering could collapse the tunnel.

Military bunkers designed to endure a thermonuke attack are MUCH deeper than subways/railways, they have thick doors designed to endure the pressure gradient of an explosion, and have their own internal HVAC systems that don't tie into the outside air; or if so, it's selectively.

My advice for anyone looking to protect electronics.
>Go to pawnshop and buy a small solid steel workers toolbox
>use a solvent to strip the paint off of the mating faces of the lid and lip of the box
>wrap electric item first in a plastic bag and then into a ball of foil.
>wrap each item like this twice before placing them into a cardboard box inside the sealed toolbox
>once the lid is sealed, you can wrap all of its cracks with aluminum HVAC tape
This is a good way to protect small electronic devices and batteries from low to moderate EMP damage.
>Test your toolbox by powering on a hand-held radio and sealing it inside
>when the lid is closed/tape is applied, the radio will lose signal.

I keep a few packs of batteries, a couple of flashlights, two handheld radios, and some electric tools(drill and small saw) in a homemade Faraday cage like this. I expect to never open it nor to need them, but I keep it on a shelf in the bottom of my garage just in case..
