The workers took over the factories throughout one of the most industrially important cities and Western Europe. The bosses either left the city, bad ones were shot, but many of them just joined the collective of workers that would run the factories and labored alongside them. The Civil War turned for the worst and it lasted only about 1 year, but it worked. Wages increased during this period as did industrial output.

I don't blame you, there's a few interesting things in Soviet style communism which I also find appealing myself. I'm by no means a communist but, for one thing, I'm capable of recognizing that the rich have no loyalty to any country and are an internationalist class of parasites. They are bad not because they are rich but because they have no loyalty to the people of this country. I feel like it is impossible to be a genuine nationalist in any sense if you don't hold the welfare of the people of this country or whatever country you're from above all other things.
Going back to the Soviets the theme of rejecting many things which modern commies shill for as "Capitalist degeneracy" is certainly an interesting and overlooked feature. I also agree with their crackdown on anarchists and their bans on modern art, which ironically got a lot of funding from the CIA.
And finally there of course is the final thing about tbe soviets I can appreciate, them being a real rival in a way China isn't. I loathe marxist communism on a fundamental level due to itsinherent internationalism but there is something that was lost when there was no longer a real peer rival to America. No more real external enemy to rally against in a meaningful way. If the soviets were still around I think there'd be less commies in America since they'd be ostracised for associating themselves ideologically with our main foreign rival.
