The parallel society idea is cool, but the problem with polygamy is it leaves a subset of men without wives. The FLDS amd other Polygamous Mormon offshoots have a consistent problem with young men leaving eventually, since there aren't enough women for everyone to be polygamous.

In ancient times where polygamy existed, this was rectified by going to war and taking brides as spoils, but even that will run dry, as there's only so many nations to plunder before you control the surrounding area.

Polygamy has merit and it's hard for me to argue against it biblically but it's flat out impossible with anything resembling current family law and definitely impossible with modern women and definitely not feasible with the current living costs here. A second wife would benefit literally everyone and because of women being the way they are they would be happy because they're in constant competition for attention against their sister wife, would never get fat, and would take some measure of pride in their appearance. The kids would never be without a caretaker and the husband would never have to deal with womens' disappointment of a libido not just because there's two of them but also because this folds into the competitiveness bit
