When I was younger and we lived in the UK (mid to late 90s) local British people called auto transmission cars "spaz chariots". They were only driven by people with disabilities, or spastics in the local vernacular of the time. Because of that I learned to drive a stick shift first and I still prefer them now. Better fuel economy, be in the gear you want, not the gear the car thinks you want. Once you learn how you dont notice any extra effort

My automatic takes forever to shift, sometimes it doesn't, just stays in a lower gear and revving too high. Annoying af. Also manual transmissions are cheaper to replace. A lot cheaper.

I had an Audi S5 manual imported but you are correct, the US market is too basic for such options and they are not offered by US dealers. The config options available in the UK and Germany are far wider in scope that you can get configured in the US but US importers just presume everyone is a tard and they get the median set of options only

A good DCT or a ZF8 speed have better fuel economy than a manual.
Many manuals were killed for euro 6d, 6e or 7 because they can't meet the emissions targets while the automatic transmissions do.

If you look at shit cars with shit autos (within gayreek budget), they will perform worse than a manual. Example: Jap shitboxes like a GR yaris.
A BMW M2 with a proper germanic gearbox outperforms the manual.
