What happened to the libertarian movement? The concept that the government shouldn't interfere with society, at either the social or economic level. It seems like ever since Trump came into existence, the movement has just died. And Trump is anything but a libertarian, from guns, to trans issues, to abortion, to tariffs, to censorship, etc. etc. he's literally the most authoritarian statist president we have ever had. What happened to the principles this country was founded upon, that we are not subjects of a king, but individuals with our own civil liberties that we uphold.

Would it be the best system if people were inherently decent? Yes, it would. But in the real world? It would just be oligarchy like we have now, but with 0 protections in place.

What we need is a system that identifies and separates collectives and individuals and gives more freedom and rights to individuals than to collectives, with protections in place to prevent collectives from curtailing the rights of the individuals.

That is why their ideologies make compromises like reducing the influence of various populqtions that would get in the way. Examples would be foreign subversives, jewish power, black criminality, hispanic and indian labor scab-tier suppression, corporatocracy (they learned the hard way with tech censorship), entrenched beaucrats, degenerate lgtqp+ types, feminists, etc.).
You'll find few of them actively vying a society that has an extrmely suppressed 1st amendment/marketplace of ideas, 2nd amendment, national soveriegnty, and the like, because they like that tradionally free, prosperous societies. While some completely abandoned moving toward that, most right wing dissidents are fundamentally motivated by getting as close as they can even if it requires compromises. In this way, you can still see the libertarian remnants within many of the right wing dissident millenial movements and now zoomer ones.

Libertarian movement is still a thing. However the reason that it's hasn't gotten bigger is both the left and the right keep sending their guys in there to fuck it up and make it a joke, and the Party doesn't stop them. America's 3rd parties are often don't gatekeep and prevent the Dems and the GOP from sending their own guys who whole purpose is to soil the party's name and use them to keep them from being the 3rd party and just make them a the biggest 3rd party.

There's very little ideological difference between libertarianism and the left, if anything libertarians are often the useful idiots of the left.

What happened was the left accomplished too much damage every time they have power while the libertarian leave everyone alone small government folks couldn't undo even a fraction of it before out of power again.
It takes a strong right to balance a strong left, and libertarian simply isn't forceful enough to get things done or undone quickly enough.
They end up just making the right weak enough that leftists are in power more frequently.

Many people are also too weak willed to thrive under libertarian stuff.
For example Oregon decriminalized all drugs for awhile and the society couldn't handle it. Society stopped even going out and participating in the world and just wasted away at home.
Turns out letting people do what they want with their bodies just results in drug addict abusive mothers creating the next generation of seriously damaged child traumatized people everyone has to live with.
