30.06 is a large calibre, being shot in the neck would have probably caused a decapitation and not that small entrance wound.
The bullet has such velocity it would have caused an exit wound.

The bullett in the Baldhalla video hits the skull and not the side of the neck. Bullet like that from 200m should cut right through soft tissue of the neck without blowing up the skull.

FMJ .30-06 is widely available here too because of the number of shooters that own old Semiautomatic, WW2, M1 Garands. The M1 was designed to operate to M2 ball (150 gr projo) spec which means slightly lighter powder charge, usually the round is flying at 2700-2750fps. Without the coroner’s report or the video from the camera behind Charlie, it’s guesswork.

Right that was kind of the point I was making. Owning an M1 is probably relatively uncommon in Canada, I'd wager the of the .30-06 guns owned in the USA, the Garand is the by far the most common. Basically all of the .30-06 FMJ will be the proper loaded Garand safe cartridge. Also .30-06 has been fading out slowly as a hunting cartridge too, more people hunt with .308 win or .223 rem these days, only old timers hunt with .30-06 or people that inherited old timer guns. My dad is a boomer and hunts with a .243 or .270 for white tails, he doesn't even own a .30-06. I only own an M1 Garand but that's not a hunting gun, I hunt with a .357Mag lever gun because it is super light and good for the 100-200m that I need it for.

Go look at what happens with a large caliber rifle bullet in ballistic gel. You basically end up with a clean wound channel for the first several inches, and then you get the expansion. The resistance of flesh is not enough to cause it to dump a significant amount of energy right away. Normal bullet vs modern bullets for war.
In WW1 (and even WW2) the bullets were very effective in killing people, but when they just killed, it fueled the enemies moral for revenge etc.
So they made special bullets that when they hit a person, they ricochet and do horrible damage, which result in death less often, but much more likely to maim etc. and even when they kill, it's not just a clean bullethole, but a mangled corpse they leave behind, that can't even be presented to the families.

he fired one shot, if he discharged the casing then they would have found one. why would the killer leave a round and not leave the gun? and if it’s a bolt action, why bother discharging the round? the story is inconsistent and the claim that there is no exit wound (based on negress who supposedly saw the video) makes the story seem even more distorted. a human vertebrae isn’t going to stop 30-06 from 200 yards. the bullet would shatter it and pass through leaving a missive cavity. if the round fragmented then it would leave an even larger exit wound.
